Analysis of free SuSE/Novell software
09/02/2004 at 12:00 AM
Many BLUGers have received the Linux Technical Resource Kit from Novell. The kit has 3 DVD’s worth of software from Novell and Suse. One part of this software is Novell Nterprise Linux Services (NNLS). This is a port of many of Novell’s flagship products, including eDirectory, iFolder, Netmail and Virtual Office, to run on a Linux server. I will show NNLS running on a Suse Enterprise Linux 8.0 server and go over some of the services that can be offered to a windows desktop client.

DataView – exchange and encrypt data
08/05/2004 at 12:00 AM
The dataview project is a desktop app that exchanges data with a remote server. It’s primary function is to download a set of records and files and allow you to work with them on your local system, even offline or the next day. When you are ready you can reconnect and upload your changes. It also lets you selectively merge changes made by others to the dataset and has the ability to selectively encrypt table columns and files.
I’ll bring copies of DataView and the Linux installer to the meeting on CD and give them out to anyone who wants to try it. I’ll install the CD on my laptop as part of my lecture. If you bring a laptop you can follow along and install at the same time. This is still a work in progress but you may find some of it useful now.
